A case of money laundering from illegal activities, possession of drugs, as well as a case of traffic offences, is being investigated by the police in Limassol, with two men aged 38 years old and 24 years old as suspects.
The 24-year-old and 38-year-old were spotted by a patrol of the Crime Prevention Unit - Limassol Police, driving a car driven[/B] by the 24-year-old in an area of Limassol, shortly after 11.00 last night, with the rear lights of the vehicle not on.
Police members called the driver to stop his vehicle, however he picked up speed and by violating the red light at a light controlled junction of the road, tried to escape the control.
After intercepting them in an adjacent street, the two suspects were subjected to a check and in the possession of the 38-year-old the sum of 1,790 euros in various banknotes was found, and a small amount of methamphetamine, approximately three grams, was found in a plastic container, which the members of the police saw the 38-year-old throw on the ground, at the point of control.
After the 38-year-old was arrested for the automatic offense of drug possession, he was taken to the offices of the YKAN, where he made allegations about the origin of the money and the amount of drugs found in his possession. He was placed in custody, with the YCAN Limassol Unit continuing its investigations into the case of drug possession and money laundering.
At the same time, the Limassol Traffic Police continues the examinations for the case of traffic offences allegedly committed by the 24-year-old driver.
It was determined after his stop and frisk that the 24-year-old holds a learner's permit and was driving his vehicle unaccompanied by a licensed driver. It was also found that he was driving the vehicle illegally, as it is registered with the Road Transport Department, since last October, as immobilised.
