Any delay in passing the judicial reform will lead to a collapse of the judiciary, with dire consequences for the rule of law, the Attorney General, George Savvidis, stresses in a written statement.
Mr. Savvidis welcomes the statement of the Supreme Court in relation to the reform of the Judiciary made during today's meeting chaired by the President of the Republic, "that, as a result of the agreement reached on the establishment of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Advisory Council for the appointment of judges, the constitutional reservations arising from the fundamental Article 157 of the Constitution no longer exist and that any positions taken by members of the Supreme Court from time to time on the separation of the third-tier courts (although respected) constitute personal views on the necessity of separation, and not positions on the constitutional dimension of the matter'.
He adds that he fully agrees with the Supreme Court's conclusion that the intended reform is an absolute necessity and any delay in passing it will lead to the collapse of the judiciary, with dire consequences for the rule of law.
It is now up to the House of Representatives, within its powers, to proceed with the passage of the reform bills immediately.
