[Cyprus Times] Prosecutor appealed against the acquittal of the Co-operative

The Legal Service has appealed the acquittal in the case concerning loans from the Strovolos SPC.

In a statement, the Legal Service said that criminal appeals were filed today by the Attorney General against the acquittal decision[/B] of the Nicosia Court of Cassation dated. 16/12/2021, in the case concerning loans from the Strovolos Bank.

It is recalled that the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia found not guilty the ten legal and natural persons accused of the criminal aspect of the collapse of Synergatis.

In the dock were Dimitrakis Stavrou, Erotokritos Chlorakiotis, Maria Chlorakiotou, Karolina Angelopoulou, Maria Chrysanthou, Konstantinos Lyras, George Mavreas and the companies Detiero Enterprises Ltd, CHL Enterprises Ltd and Ktimatiki kotrona Ltd.

The indictment in the case included 48 charges involving offences of conspiracy to defraud, misappropriation of goods by false representation, forgery and circulation of forged document, false accounts, misappropriation of property, abuse of power as well as offences of concealment. According to the indictment, the offences arose during the conclusion of seven loans by the Strovolos SEP in an illegal manner.

It is recalled that the indictment in the case was registered at the Nicosia District Court on 21/12/2017 and on 27/3/2018 the case was referred to the Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court.

On 24/10/2019, all defendants responded by pleading not guilty to the charges they face.
