DISY in election fever Averof Neophytou gave the possibility of the decision to the Base He responded with resignation, accepted interest but reserved by Nikos Christodoulides Today's submission of interest for the presidential election to DISY

In the wake of Christodoulides' resignation and his statements that he is interested in the presidential election but disagrees with early and long election periods, pointing directly at Averof Neophytou who has already expressed interest in "running" the race for 2023, the attention is also turned to Pindarou today.

On the 3rd floor of the "Glafkos Klerides" building, the President of the Democratic Rally officially expresses interest in being the party's choice for the Presidential Elections and it will be not just a surprise but... "an earthquake" if there is interest from another member of the Rally.

The process will be ongoing from 9.30am to 12 noon and members who were registered in the Party's Membership Register up to 11 October 2021 are eligible to submit.

Weekend with election colour

However, since Friday, when Averof Neophytou threw down the gauntlet to Nikos Christodoulides, the intervening 24 hours have had a strong election colour. The President of the party spoke and a response was expected, which came on Sunday with Nikos Christodoulides stating, among other things, that he was never interested in the Presidency of the party. Announcing his resignation the until... tomorrow Foreign Minister said no to timetables imposed by others, expressed respect for any ambitions and responded implicitly but clearly to what Mr Neophytou accused him of. As for his own ambitions, he gave the message that the chair he is interested in is not in Pindarou but on the hill,[/B] but reserved announcements for when he makes final decisions

The response came via a statement from DISY referring to the opportunity given to Christodoulides by the party that raised and promoted him. "We were also given the option of a democratic election, where our 51,000 members will choose freely. To describe such a process as 'jungle and anarchy' is a slip of the tongue that shows contempt for the grassroots and democracy." The option remains open to this day, with DISY referring to the internal party process.

On Friday, Averof Neophytou to explain the rationale behind his decision, referred to a dark battle, undermining and blackmail. He said the foreign minister was avoiding being formally disclosed so that he could tread in both boats at the same time: "party legitimacy, as well as the independent antisystemic course."

Averof Neophytou, wanting to put an end to the whispers, made his own big move, declaring himself ready to resign from the post of President and call for elections for the party leadership, in which the 51 thousand DISY members would have the right to vote. In this way, he was overturning Christodoulides' argument that he controls the Supreme Council.

However, as reported in an article yesterday, the Christodoulides' resignation did not strike the government and DISY like a bolt from the blue, who were nevertheless waiting to see if the outgoing Foreign Minister would have second thoughts after the publication of Averoff's proposal to appeal to the party's base.
