Prison Staff Branch expresses dissatisfaction over reports about the Prison Department

Dissatisfaction, The Prison Staff Branch - PASYDY in relation to reports that have come to light in recent days concerning the Prisons Department regarding a corrupt member of the Branch assisting prisoners.

"Such reports are unacceptable to be made before they are confirmed, especially in public, and affect the difficult work that Prison staff are required to carry out on a daily basis," the Prison Staff Branch said in a statement.

It also states that "these issues are very sensitive as they affect the order, security and discipline of the Prisons and therefore we do not accept unsubstantiated reports from individuals who publicly express an opinion on such matters."

"Everyone should be careful in their public statements or reports, especially when they are undocumented, as they affect our members, their families, their children and the organisation in general," he adds.

The Prison Staff Branch says it condemns "such attitudes, as well as any act of corruption, which should not characterize any public official and in particular Prison staff, who perform such an important function."

He added that for the past seven years or more, the Department's management has been conducting retirements of members, sending a resounding message to the society about the zero tolerance shown on corruption issues.

Finally, the Prison Staff Branch - PASYDY states that it reserves its legal rights and will move with civil lawsuits "in case the undocumented offensive comments against our members are not withdrawn."
