The President of the European Parliament, Italian social democrat David Sassoli, died overnight Monday night in his home country at the age of 65, his spokesman said.
David Sassoli died at 0:15 on January 11 at the Aviano oncology treatment centre in Italy, where he had been hospitalised since late December, Roberto Quillo, the spokesman for the president of the European Parliament, made known on Twitter.
