"We condemn actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent country", President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades said today when asked to comment on the developments in Ukraine.

In his remarks to journalists on the sidelines of EXPO 2020 in Dubai, the President of the Republic, asked to comment on what is happening in Ukraine, underlined that "I must say that it is with great disappointment that we are watching what is happening in violation of international law and we cannot but as a country condemn such actions which violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent country."

"I want to believe that dialogue will prevail over arms. Nevertheless, we are watching with anxiety and what is even more worrying are statements that suggest an intention to further expand military operations."

He added that "I am trying to find ways, if possible, to attend, especially after this morning's development, tonight's European Council meeting."
