The sixth vote for the election of the new President of the Republic in Italy is underway, which, however, is not expected to prove decisive.

In anticipation of tomorrow's vote, meanwhile, meetings of political leaders are continuing. A short while ago, League secretary Matteo Salvini met with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, Five Star leader Giuseppe Conte and centre-left secretary Enrico Letta.

According to Italian public television, Rai, after the meeting, Letta said he was optimistic.

The names returning to the fore at this stage, according to Rai, are those of Mario Draghi, the current President of the Republic, Sergio Matarella (for a second term) and the centrist, former President of the Parliament, Pierferdinando Casini.

In about an hour, the leaders of the country's main political parties are expected to meet again to continue the dialogue that began earlier.
