Polis Chrysochous is on a development track with projects being completed or in progress, according to the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous Giotis Papachristofis.

As he mentioned, the Multifunctional Park in Latchi, a modern park for sports and healthy activities adjacent to the beach, has been completed. Within 2022, specifically April to May, the completion of the upgrading and landscaping of the Port Authority's Warehouses in Latchi is expected, a project co-funded by the European "Sea" fund through the Pafos Aphrodite Development Company.

He added that an important project expected to start work in 2022 is the regeneration/revitalization of the traditional cores in Prodromi and Polis and the enhancement and interconnection of four archaeological sites in the area, a project being implemented by the Municipality in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities. In relation to the archaeological sites, the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous told CNA that the Local Authority is ready and they are waiting for a meeting with the Department of Antiquities to review the final design and proceed with its submission to the Department of Urban Planning.

Also of particular importance, he said, is the expansion of the Port of Latchi both on land and at sea with the addition of 350 berths. This is a project costing more than 40 million euros, which is being implemented by the Ports Authority and its implementation will begin in 2022. He also said that a press conference will be held in the near future in order for the President of the Ports Authority to present the timelines for the implementation of the project.

Mr. Papachristofi said in a statement to CNA that next Tuesday he will meet in Nicosia with Interior Minister Nikos Nouris to discuss the issues of Polis Chrysochous, the mature projects, such as the tourist road, the surrounding roads, the pedestrian road from Polis Chrysochous to Latchi. Our main objective, he said, is the promotion and maturation, in a systematic and time-bound manner, of important infrastructure projects that will unify the three areas of Latchi, Polis and Prodromi and give Polis Chrysochous the character of a small but real and modern city.

He also announced that other projects that are in the initial stage of maturation and some are expected to start construction within 2023 include the redevelopment of the area around the Town Hall, the creation of a municipal recreation center on the beach between the Municipal Plaza and the camping area, the third phase of expansion in Latchi in combination with the reconfiguration of the road network to Neo Horio, the creation of a square and parking areas, the creation of a coastal walkway from the camping area to the lake, as well as the execution of road works, pedestrianisation and other actions for the beautification and landscaping of the city (maintenance of green areas, removal of illegalities, etc.p]Regarding the campsite, Papachristofi said that the user of the campsite is currently before the courts and the completion of the legal proceedings, which have been ongoing for five years, is expected. However, he pointed out that when the problems are overcome, the campsite will be an ornament for the area and will bring significant benefits to Polis Chrysochous.
