The President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades received today, at the Presidential Palace, the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Ms Elisa Ferreira.
After the meeting, the Commissioner told journalists, among other things, that she had a very interesting and very open discussion with the President.
She added that it is gratifying that there is agreement with Cyprus on the development agenda and the support of the European funds for the period 2021-2027.
Cyprus, he said, has a very good performance in the use of these funds and this new period will again give Cyprus a good impetus for decoupling from fossil fuels, but also for development using all digital and innovative technologies.
Asked about the absorption of EU funds, Ms Ferreira said that Cyprus is one of the most efficient users of these funds, expressing satisfaction with the fact that a new period of support is opening up for Cyprus' virtuous development.
Asked how much money will be given to Cyprus for the whole programming period, Ms Ferreira said that from the Cohesion Fund alone, not the Recovery and Resilience Fund, Cyprus will receive one billion euros.
