EKYSY asks for a meeting with the Minister of Energy on the issue of accuracy Calls for compensatory benefits to be granted to pensioners
The Union of Cypriot Pensioners (EKYSY) in a letter to the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry asks for a meeting with her on the issue of accuracy.
The letter notes that the Union is receiving strong complaints from pensioners about the continuing increase in the prices of fuel, electricity and gas which is added to the new increases in basic consumer goods as the upward trend in fuel and electricity is expected to continue in the coming period with further chain increases in other consumer goods.
EKYSY calls on the Minister to, among other things, reduce VAT on electricity bills to 5% for six months, reduce VAT on basic consumer products, reduce VAT and other charges on electricity for as long as the wave of increases continues and to exploit the possibility of imposing a cap on the prices of basic consumer products.
It also calls for compensatory benefits to be granted to pensioners by the government to address the increased cost of living and additional need to cover heating costs.
