British people are in favour of Johnson's resignation in two polls after outrage over the Coronation parties 66% say Boris Johnson should resign because of 'partygate'

A majority of people in Britain believe that Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, should resign, according to two opinion polls conducted on Tuesday in the wake of the new revelation about partying on Downing Street during the lockdown last May.

Invitations to the party in the garden of the building housing the Prime Minister's office had been sent out by the Prime Minister's private secretary, with Mr. Johnson in attendance, according to British media sources.

A poll of 5,931 people by YouGov for Sky News shows that 56% of them think the Prime Minister should resign.

27% of respondents say he should not resign and 17% have no opinion.

A second poll, of a sample of 1.040 UK residents by Savanta ComRes, returns a similar result.

66% say Boris Johnson should resign because of 'partygate', compared to 24% who think there is no need to resign.

42% of respondents who voted for the Conservative Party in the 2019 election say yes to the question about resignation.

Of Labour voters, 85% see a reason to resign, compared to 10%.
