Increased controls on gun ownership and use are proposed by the Cyprus Party for Animals, following the incident yesterday in Limassol district that resulted in the accidental fatal shooting of a father by his son.

Unfortunately, says a statement from the party, "the situation regarding outings and accidents during the hunting season has intensified. Therefore, they should be taken very seriously by the officials of the Game Service." "We recommend the tightening of gun possession and gun control to prevent similar tragic and fatal accidents in the future," it added.

It calls on "the police in cooperation with the Thera Service to find ways to prevent such incidents, and to finally make changes to the legislation on the acquisition and possession of hunting weapons, with the development of mechanisms for systematic control for all those who own weapons", and expresses "its sincere and warm condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased father."
