Parliament postpones for a week the vote on the new competition protection legislation
The plenary session of the House of Representatives postponed the vote on the new competition protection legislation, following oral amendments submitted.
Specifically, DIKO through MP Panikos Leonidou submitted an oral amendment, according to which the position of the President of the Competition Protection Committee would require the same qualifications as those required for appointment to the position of President or Senior Judge of a District Court.
An amendment was also tabled by DPA-Coalition of Democratic Forces MP Michael Yakoomi on the issue of the qualifications of the Chairman of the Commission, however, he also tabled an oral amendment regarding the qualifications of the members of the Commission.
Following a remark by DISY President Averof Neophytou that the amendments raise very serious issues and there must be time for the parties to study and position themselves, it was decided to postpone the vote on the bill for a week.
