No serious problems in Paphos due to weather conditions, prefect says

There have not been any serious issues with the recent heavy rainfall and bad weather experienced in Paphos province, except for some minor landslides, Paphos prefect Mary Lambrou told the Cyprus News Agency, noting that the Paphos District Administration crews have been working over the weekends and will be on standby for the next few days.

Lambrou told the Cyprus News Agency that last Saturday she had information that there were some landslides on the Kathika - Stroubiou road and on the Chada road. The these roads, he explained, are public works roads, but the mayors of Tsada and Strubiou respectively have taken care of these roads.

He then referred to the snowfalls that occurred in communities with high altitude, such as Panagia and Statos/Agios Fotios, however, he said, no intervention was needed there either.

The crews of the District Administration, he continued, will be on alert in the coming days.

He also said that the main rivers of Paphos are experiencing increased flow, therefore, he added, the public is urged to be very careful and not to take risks and pass through a river.

He also mentioned two cases in the previous days when vehicles were endangered and the intervention of the Fire Brigade was required. Lambrou said that one cannot perceive the depth and momentum of the water.
