The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 26, 2021:
- No deaths of patients with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 628.
- 162 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 74 are in serious condition. A rate of 80,87% of hospitalized have no history of vaccination.
- 15 postCOVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an intensive care unit.
- A total of 53,715 tests for detection of the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test have been performed.
- 912 (positivity rate: 1.7%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 150,760.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 628, of which:
- [*]401 males (63.9%), and[*]227 females (36.1%).
The average age of deaths from the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 162 patients
of COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYP, of which 74 are in severe condition or on NSAIDs.
Of the 74 patients in serious condition, 26 are intubated, 5 are in an Intensive Care Unit off ventilator, and 43 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 53,715 diagnoses performed, 4,535 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 49,180 by the antigen rapid test method, 912 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 22 cases out of 2,639 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports;
- 63 cases out of 1,667 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 21 cases out of 229 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 310 cases out of 21,146 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 496 cases from 28,034 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
