Pancyprian traffic controls to reduce road collisions More than 450 violations

More than 450 traffic violations were detected and reported during traffic controls carried out by members of the Police, all over the country, during the last 24 hours.

Specifically, during the last 24 hours, members of the Police, in the framework of traffic controls carried out throughout Cyprus, with the aim of reducing serious and fatal traffic collisions, identified more than 450 traffic offences, for which relevant bills of summons were issued.

The majority of the complaints concerned offences which are proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road traffic collisions, such as speeding, an offence for which 176 drivers were reported.

During the traffic checks, five persons were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, while another 48 persons were reported for not wearing a seat belt. 38 drivers were reported for using a mobile phone while driving and two others for not wearing a protective helmet. There were also 67 complaints for traffic sign violations. The remaining complaints related to other traffic offences.

Traffic checks continue on a daily basis to prevent fatal and serious traffic collisions and to instil good road awareness among all road users.
