"A huge turnout of children" at the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Centre Over 460 children aged 5-11 years old were vaccinated

The return to schools began on Friday with infants and toddlers and is expected to culminate on Monday with the opening of primary, secondary and high schools.

Once again it is being done under peculiar conditions due to the spike in outbreaks so shielding the little ones is considered essential to bring the pandemic to an end as early as possible.

Today, a total of 465 children, aged 5 to 11 years, were vaccinated at the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Centre where a mobile vaccination unit for these ages was in operation.

At the entrance of the sports centre there was Santa Claus giving pencils to the children to give them courage. The vaccination centre was also visited by the Minister of Health, Michael Hatzipantela

It is also noted that on January 15, 2022, a vaccination center (08:00 - 14:00) will open at the office of the Commissioner of Mountain Community Development in Trimiklini to serve children aged 5-11 years old.

In her statements, the Director General of the Ministry, Christina Giannaki, announced that about 420 children were vaccinated today at "Spyros Kyprianou", while initially there were 300 appointments, and 800 citizens were served at the walk-in.

Most important of all, she continued, is that the percentage of the general population vaccinated today in our country reached 70.1%, while the percentage of the adult population is at 83.5%.

"What I want to say is that, with this great organization that has been done by the Ministry of Health, by the officials, by the deputy director of nursing services, nurses, health visitors and all this great planning that has been done, it has brought the very good results," he added.

We, he added, will continue this titanic effort in the well-meaning interest of public health in general, because the Ministry of Health is there and puts its heart and soul into it on a daily basis."

In addition, the President of the Cyprus Paediatric Society, Dr. Michael Anastasiades, expressed his delight at the large turnout of children at the "Spyros Kyprianou" vaccination centre.

"Smiling children, children who fill us with their own optimism and their own faith that we really will see a better day in this country," he said and expressed the thanks of the Pediatric Society and the entire scientific community, to the Ministry of Health, to the Minister himself, to the Director General, "with whom we are in the same battle, in the same weather, and as one fist right now, we continue to fight to win this war."

He assured that the Cyprus Paediatric Society has put itself, its members, at the disposal of the State and next Saturday will be in Trimiklini to vaccinate children, but also anywhere else and whenever needed.
