Cats were pointed out as "responsible" for the fires in 107 houses in South Korea between January 2019 and November 2021 by the Seoul Fire and Disaster Agency.

As reported by CNN, the cats, are hyperactive and playful. Authorities believe there were fires started by electric cookers, which now light up easily when the cats press their sensitive buttons. Therefore, if they overheat, there is a risk of fire.

Four people were injured in the 107 incidents, while more than half of the residents were away from home, according to the Seoul Fire Department.

"Cat-related fires are still happening. We advise residents with pets to be more careful as the fire can spread in a flash when no one is home," the statement said. Pet cat owners are advised to remove flammable materials or objects above kitchens.

The problem is not only found in South Korea. The American Humane Association claims that pets are responsible for over 1,000 fires annually in the U.S.
