Osteoporosis treatment is decided by specialists, says the Cyprus Rheumatology Society What it says in a statement

Osteoporosis is diagnosed with the help of the DEXA test but the decision for treatment is taken by doctors with expertise in the subject, who study the result of the test together with each person individually, taking into account the risk factors that may exist, says the Cyprus Rheumatology Society in a statement, clarifying that the doctors who specialize in the treatment of osteoporosis are rheumatologists and endocrinologists.

As stated, the Rheumatology Society made the announcement in order to clarify certain points on the issue of osteoporosis in response to recent press reports on the subject.

In this regard, it takes the position that heel ultrasound examination has no place in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, adding that drug therapy does not include estrogen, since estrogen should be given in cases of deficiency in young women and not for the treatment of osteoporosis.

He notes that the risks of taking estrogens outweigh the benefits and so they are no longer used to treat osteoporosis, adding that anti-estrogens have no place in the treatment of osteoporosis.
