Oscar winner David Brenner dies at 59 The cause of death of the Oscar-winning editor is not yet known

David Brenner[/B], who won the Oscar for Best Editing for Oliver Stone's Born on the Fourth of July, died at the age of 59 on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from his wife, Amber.

On GoFundMe, Lightstorm Entertainment has set up a fundraiser for fans to donate money to help his family. So far, $46,000 has been raised in less than 24 hours, with the amount growing.

Zach Schneider, who worked with Brenner in the original and sequel Justice League, as well as 2013's Man of Steel and 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, said: "I am devastated by the news that I have lost my dear friend and collaborator David Brenner... The kindest man, a loving father and husband, a gifted artist... you will be greatly missed."

Roland Emerich, who worked with Brenner on Independence Day, The Patriot and The Day After Tomorrow, shared the following message on Facebook: "Our heartfelt and sincere condolences to Amber, Anna, Haider and Sasha on the sad and tragic death of Oscar-winning editor David Brenner, a beloved husband and father, as well as a dear and very talented friend."

Brenner also worked with Rob Marshall on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011. The director expressed his condolences by writing: "David was an extraordinary artist and a kind man. We were incredibly fortunate to work with such a beautiful man and we deeply regret this unimaginable loss and offer our deepest condolences."

Avatar producer John Landau tweeted on Friday: "We lost a much loved member of the #AvatarFamily, David Brenner, a great collaborator on the Avatar sequels. Our hearts go out to his wife Amber and their children His talent, compassion and friendship will be truly missed."
