Organized parents of primary school parents deplore the reaction of the General Secretary of PDOED to the proposal for dialogue on the extension of the educational period What the Pancyprian Confederation of Federations says in a statement Associations of Parents' Associations of Primary Education Schools
The Pancyprian Confederation of Federations of Associations of Parents' Associations of Primary Education Schools regrets the post of the General Secretary of the PDED, in the Social Media and his public statement, regarding the Confederation's proposal to extend the school term as a measure to address the educational weaknesses due to the pandemic and calls on the leadership of the PPAED to state whether it shares and adopts this view.
"We would like to express our regret for the posting of the General Secretary of the PDOED, on Social Media and his public statement on his personal profile, regarding our proposal in the context of dialogue for an extension of the educational period, as a measure to address the educational weaknesses due to pandemic," reads a statement of the Confederation.
It asks the questions "since when a proposal for dialogue is rejected without any discussion? And by whom can the proposal be rejected?"
The Confederation adds that organised parents seek to have the best cooperation with teachers' unions by addressing together and mostly supporting any proposals.
Stating that organised parents have acknowledged and reported to the Ministry of Education the problems that exist with staffing schools in times of pandemic, they state that this and other consequences of the pandemic result in the loss of valuable teaching time and have a negative impact on the quality of children's learning both for those in the classroom and for children who are quarantined either as a contact or as a case and stay at home.
As organized parents, it adds, "we ask the obvious, we ask that our children have no learning gaps and that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills that will accompany them for the rest of their lives."
The Confederation calls on "the leadership of the PDOED, to state whether it shares and adopts this view."
