The leather-bound work, measuring 5 mm by 5 mm. - smaller than the tip of a pencil - contains versions of the Sunday Prayer in seven languages
One of the world's smallest books was sold at an auction in Brussels for €4,200. The leather-bound work, measuring 5 mm by 5 mm smaller than the tip of a pencil, contains versions of the Sunday Prayer in Dutch, English (British and American), French, German, Spanish, French and Swedish.
Its price had been estimated at between 1,000 and 1,500 euros, but an anonymous buyer acquired it at an auction held by Arenberg Auctions in Brussels for 3,500 euros and at an additional cost paid 4,200 euros.
Henry Goetz, the auctioneer, said: The printed text is so tiny that you cannot read it with the naked eye, but you need a powerful magnifying glass. The book, entitled The Lord`s Prayer, was one of hundreds published in 1952 by the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Germany, as part of a fund-raising initiative to help with the costs of rebuilding the building after World War II.
This is one of the oldest Printing Museums in the world and is named after Johannes Gutenberg, who pioneered mechanical printing in Europe in the 15th century.
