A group of persons residing in a complex of apartments in Chloraka allegedly created a new incident last night in the area by throwing stones and sticks, while they also allegedly threw stones at police who rushed to the scene, who fired warning shots.

According to a spokesman for the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, the clash occurred yesterday between about 100- 150 people in an apartment complex in Chloraka.
Members of the Paphos Police Directorate went to the scene around 18:50 in the afternoon where they spotted the large number of people at the scene. When members of the force approached them they were shot with stones . Members of the force fired warning shots in the air in order to disperse them. At the scene, personnel and an anti-riot team headed by Paphos Police Director Nikos Tsapi
By the arrival of reinforcements, however, the rioters had been dispersed. Subsequently, patrols were conducted in the area and persons and vehicles were intercepted. During the checks a 24-year-old man[/B] was found in possession of a knife and arrested on a stabbing charge[/B]. The Paphos Police are also investigating whether this individual was involved in the incidents.
A vehicle driver was also attacked who left on foot
Also, members of the Paphos Police Department nearby located a car that was overturned and damaged.
After further investigations, the owner of the vehicle was located, who reported to the police that a number of persons holding sticks and other aggressive objects, while walking with his car in the area moved threateningly against him, intercepting him. They also damaged the vehicle and subsequently he fled.
Paphos CID is investigating the examinations.
