The current epidemiological situation in the European Union, due to the spread of the Omicron variant, was discussed by Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou and the EU Advisory Platform on Pandemic Influenza in a teleconference on Wednesday.
In a related post on Twitter, Kyriakidou stressed that as cases set new records and hospitals face increased pressures "it is the time for constant vigilance and responsibility".
"Vaccinations, booster doses and masks can help us protect our communities," he adds.
The Pandemic Advisory Platform is composed of experts and representatives of Member States' health authorities, with meetings involving relevant officials from the Commission and the heads of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Medicines Agency.
