Official first for the Limassol Carnival 2022 No parades and other mass events due to the pandemic

The Limassol Carnival officially begins today, Ash Wednesday, which for the second year in a row adapts to the pandemic and focuses on events at the Lanitis Municipal Mill and the Pattihio Municipal Theatre, with no parades or other mass events.

The coronation of this year's Carnival Queen, to be embodied by Vera Efthymiou Parlalidou, will take place on 18.00, at the Pattichio Municipal Theatre of Limassol, in the presence of the Mayor, the city council and the royal family of the carnival.

As a good witch who comes to banish the coronavirus from our lives, the new queen will take the reins from King Lemesos, the city's Maharajah (George Nikolaou), who is the only king of the carnival who remained on his throne for two years due to the coronavirus.

Tomorrow, Friday, the events of the Limassol Municipality will continue with the musical and dance performance "Irtan the lifted", by a six-member musical group, also at the Pattichio Municipal Theatre, at 20:00.00.

On Saturday, February 26, at 19.00, the districts of Limassol will be filled with the romantic melodies of the Limassol Cantadors, the Cantadors "Modern Times" and the Ariones choir, while at 20.00 the events will move to the cultural centre "Trakasol" (Limassol Marina), where the Limassol Municipality, in cooperation with Studio8, will honour the Yorgalletos Cantadors for their more than 80 years of service, in a tribute to the Limassol Carnival, in memory of the chariot maker Kostas Mavrogenis.

On Sunday, February 27, at 19.00, at the Lanitis Paper Mill, an exhibition of cartoons, photographs, posters and children's works from primary schools of Limassol will be held, as well as screenings of past carnivals. At the same venue, at 20.00, the eight-piece orchestra of Admitos Pitsilides will present songs by great Greek composers, with a Halloween flavour.

The event will be broadcast live on the internet, as well as two other events that will take place at the Lanitis Carnival, on Tuesday 1 March, at 20.00, with carnival songs, and on Saturday 5 March, at the same time, with a cantador night.



Due to the limited number of people allowed in the auditoriums, the carnival events that will take place at the Pattiotio Municipal Theatre and the Lanitis Municipal Theatre, participation is free of charge, but is subject to a pre-booking procedure.

Tickets are available online at www.tickethour.com.cy , at the Pattiχείου Municipal Theatre box office and at ACS Courier stores. Seats are pre-booked on a first-come, first-served basis, and each person may pre-book up to two tickets.
