OELMEK: Removal of injustice by equating the sick and rest leaves of permanent teachers with permanent teachers
The OELMEK welcomes the decision of the Council of Ministers (9/2/2022) to equate the sick and rest leaves of permanent teachers with those of permanent teachers.
"By solving this problem, which our Organization has been constantly raising in all directions in recent years, an injustice suffered for years by our colleagues who are permanent teachers compared to permanent employees in the public service is removed," it adds.
At the same time, the Organization points out that this positive step is not enough.
At the same time, the Organization points out that this positive step is not enough.
"It requires the removal of the discrimination against permanent teachers resulting from Article 2(I) of the Law (70 (I) 2016) on the employment of permanent employees in the public service and calls on the Ministry of Education as well as the Committee on Education of the Parliament to continue the debate that began in the Parliament on 17/11/2021, in order to find a solution to ensure the employment of fellow permanent teachers," it notes.
OELMEK also calls on the Ministry of Education to initiate as soon as possible the procedures for increasing the number of permanent posts in education, by making a significant number of contract teachers permanent, so that the percentage of contract teachers is limited to 5%, as is the case in the member states of the European Union.
Finally, he expects the Ministry of Education and Science to positively address the long-standing demands made by OELMEK for the leaves of contract workers and substitutes, as he raised them again with the Director of Secondary Education on 4 February 2022.
