The new Novavax protein vaccine, called Nuvaxovid, is available from today, Tuesday, at the Vaccination Portal.
As CNA informs the first appointments have already been made, while the first vaccinations with Nuvaxovid will take place next Saturday, March 12, 2022.
As a reminder, the Novavax vaccine is only administered for basic vaccination and no booster vaccination with Nuvaxovid will take place at this stage.
In total, 15 thousand doses of this vaccine will be made available through the Vaccination Portal.
What is the Nuvaxovid vaccine
Nuvaxovid is a vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in people aged 18 years and over. It contains a version of a protein found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (spike protein), which has been produced in the laboratory.
This vaccine will be administered in doses, with an interval of 3 weeks, and according to the studies carried out, the effectiveness of the Nuvaxovid vaccine is approximately 90%.
It is noted that if the vaccinated person comes into contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the immune system will recognise the spike protein in the virus and will be ready to attack.
Antibodies and immune cells can protect against COVID-19 disease by working together to kill the virus, prevent it from entering the body's cells and destroy infected cells.
