PASYNO and the Nurses' Branch PASYDY warn of measures to "Complicate the staffing of hospitals"

The Pancyprian Nurses' Guild (PASYNO) and the PASYDY Nurses' Branch warn that, in the event of an impasse in the staffing of hospitals, they will consider ways of reacting, not excluding strike measures.

In a joint statement, the two unions express their strong dissatisfaction, regret and concern about the obstruction shown by OKYPY in reaching an agreement on the correct and appropriate staffing of the Organization's hospitals.

They say they have repeatedly indicated that the nursing homes need to be staffed and that the process for appropriate staffing is dragging on and it is considered urgent to conclude discussions.

"The Agency's patchwork solutions of constantly moving nursing staff from one department to another only cause problems as we close one hole and open others. This practice cannot be tolerated and adopted when nursing homes are managing human lives. We will not tolerate discounts in health," the unions point out.

They note that although the issue of understaffing is found in all public hospitals, it has recently become more apparent in the Makarios Hospital.

The unions say that "the two Pediatric Departments, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Macari Hospital, which is also the Reference Hospital for Children, are facing serious issues of understaffing and overcrowding, which are growing and increasing daily, with the OCYPY washing its hands and blaming others".

Noteworthy, they also note, is the problem that has been created at the TAEP of the Paphos General Hospital, where their colleagues spontaneously went on a one-hour work stoppage yesterday.
