Shops put on their festive clothes Traffic is numb, says POVEK Paphos

Numb is the traffic in the market of Paphos, according to POVEK estimates, with the president of POVEK Paphos Andreas Evripidou stating that unfortunately the pandemic has left its mark everywhere.

In a statement to the Cyprus News Agency, Mr. Evripidou noted that the shops of Paphos wore their festive clothes and considering that these holidays will be different this year as well, because of the pandemic and its effects, the goal of the shopkeepers is to keep the Christmas spirit alive, giving an air of optimism, hope and a festive atmosphere throughout the city, in every neighborhood, prioritizing the safety and protection of the citizens.

Moreover, the Christmas events "Santa Run", organized by the Paphos Municipality at this time in the Paphos shopping centre and Kennedy Square, with young and old dressed as Santa Claus, create a festive atmosphere in the streets of the city, he noted, while the event also supported voluntary associations and charitable organizations, as well as shopkeepers in the area.

Especially in Paphos, he continued, the slightest disturbance in tourism immediately shows its signs in all sectors of the economy of the province. Everything depends on tourism, he stressed.

The signs are extremely ominous, he assessed, noting that unfortunately, worse days are foreseen. According to Evripidou, the situation is not only due to the fact that the incomes of small and medium-sized businesses and artisans are reduced. All these businesses, he continued, will need a long-term support due also to their accumulated obligations to the various State agencies (fees, renewal of licenses, etc.) .

The impact of the pandemic is not only the patients infected by Covid - 19 or the dead and the people we lost, he says and stresses, concluding that the impact is wider.
