The daily count of coronavirus cases announced this afternoon in the UK is down 45% from last Tuesday.
The 120.821 confirmed cases today are the fewest in a 24-hour period since 27 December.
On a rolling seven-day basis in fact cases are down by 13%.
Deaths confirmed in the 24-hour period, however, totalled 379. In the last seven days, deaths are up 81% compared to the previous corresponding period.
Hospitalisation figures show a further increase in Covid carriers in hospital. Up to yesterday Monday there were 19,828, a doubling in the space of two weeks.
By contrast, in the same period intubated patients have fallen by 6% and now number 820.
