His mocking comment on the favourite habits of Russian officials in Europe
EU member states decided on Tuesday (22/02) to impose a first package of sanctions against Russia. EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borel notes that the sanctions target banks, defence sector, while at the same time restricting Russia's access to European capital markets.
According to Borel's Twitter posts, the European Union (EU) foreign ministers have decided to impose sanctions on 27 Russian individuals and entities, banks and the defence sector
All members of the Russian Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, will be subject to EU sanctions, which typically include travel restrictions and asset freezes.
Borel argued that the sanctions are only part of the EU's response, and in comments on Russian officials' favorite habits in Europe, he said:
"No more shopping in Milan, partying in St. Tropez, diamonds in Antwerp."
