Redevelopment of the Makarios - Stasikratous - Evagorou Commercial Triangle construction phase B The Nicosia Municipality's announcement of the extension of the temporary one-way section of Arch. Makarios C

The Nicosia Municipality informs you that, following the approval of the Chief of Police, the temporary traffic regulation applied to the section of Arch. Makarios C' from its light-controlled intersection with Spyrou Kyprianou - Digeni Akrita avenues to its light-controlled intersection with Ave. Evagorou - A.G. Leventis with one lane reserved for buses only and one lane open for all vehicles and with a speed limit of 20km

This operation is a temporary solution until the implementation of the original design (two-way traffic with exclusive use for buses, taxis and beneficiaries only).

This transitional period is deemed necessary to allow the time needed to complete the whole project, i.e. the works on A.G. Leventis Street and the lanes.

Also, and perhaps more importantly, time is given to the relevant ministries, agencies or departments to proceed with the implementation of the required remaining infrastructure and the formulation of the institutional framework for the operation of the photoluminescence system.

Important conditions for the effectiveness of the traffic regulations of the initial design

This project was based on the Nicosia Integrated Mobility Plan (IMP) of the Ministry of Transport to promote sustainable transport, enhance sustainable mobility in the urban area of Nicosia and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (which is a commitment of the Republic of Cyprus until 2030).

The Nicosia Municipality, through the various projects implemented over the last decade, is implementing provisions of the CSAP. We believe it goes without saying that the relevant government departments will proceed swiftly with the remaining outstanding issues related to the CBCL, especially the issues of the creation of a bus corridor from Strovolos and Lakatamia to the centre of Nicosia and the conversion of main axes into single carriageways, in order to create the required bus lanes, which will serve the initial objective, i.e. to increase ridership on public transport (or to create a comparative advantage for the bus over the car).

Without the implementation of all the above, the wider traffic system will remain inefficient and the Republic of Cyprus runs the risk of not achieving its objective, with all the consequences this will have for our country.

At the same time, it is necessary to formulate the institutional framework for the operation of the light signalling system for the regulation/policing of the entry/movement of only authorised vehicles in the area.

At the same time, it is necessary to formulate the institutional framework for the operation of the light signalling system for the regulation/policing of the entry/movement of only authorised vehicles in the area. And it is very important that the relevant ministries, agencies or departments, which are responsible for formulating this institutional framework, settle this pending issue before the traffic regulations of the original design are implemented, since it is almost certain that without it, unauthorized vehicles will move unmolested on the compared section of the avenue.

The project is co-financed by the EU Cohesion Fund, the State Budget and the Municipality of Nicosia under the 2014-2020 programming period, Operational Programme: Competitiveness and Sustainable Development 2014-2020,- Specific Objective: improving mobility mainly in the urban area of Nicosia, Axis 5: Promoting Sustainable Transport and Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions.
