The Nicosia Convention enters into force on 1 April 2022
The Council of Europe Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property enters into force on 1 April of this year, also known as the Nicosia Convention, since it was opened for signature at the 127th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 19 May 2017 in Nicosia.
The Convention will enter into force in the five countries that have ratified it. The latest was Hungary, which ratified it on 2 December 2021. It was preceded by Cyprus (7/12/2017), Mexico (a non-member country of the Council of Europe on 6/9/2018), Greece (2/3/2021) and Latvia (30/4/2021).
It has also been signed but not ratified by eight other countries, Armenia, Italy, Montenegro, Portugal, the Russian Federation, San Marino, Slovenia and Ukraine.
