Today the weather will be mainly cloudy and local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, initially mainly in the western half of the island but later in the rest of the island. On the higher peaks of the Troodos or locally in the higher mountain ranges it is expected to snow at times. Locally the phenomena are expected to be intense or prolonged. Winds will blow southwest to west and in the north and locally in the interior and east northeast to southeast, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and from midday onwards locally up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be generally a little rough to choppy. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees inland and on the coast and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains.
A yellow warning is in effect from midnight today until 6 pm for strong thunderstorms.
Tonight the weather will initially be mainly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, with a gradual improvement expected. Winds will be northwest to northeast, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually becoming moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly choppy to choppy and on the inshore coast choppy. The temperature will drop to around 6 degrees inland, around 10 degrees on the coast and around zero degrees in the higher mountains, where frost will form.
On Friday and Saturday the weather will be mainly clear, however patchy cloudy conditions are likely to bring isolated showers, as well as occasional snowfall, locally in the higher mountains.
On Sunday the weather will be mainly clear with scattered clouds.
The temperature will drop on Friday, rise on Saturday and again drop on Sunday, to be below average.
The snow depth at Troodos Square, at the time of writing, was 9 cm.
Morning Police update on road conditions:
[/P]According to the morning reports we are receiving, on the main roads there are no serious problems affecting the smooth passage of traffic.
In the Troodos area, there is a thin fog. On the roads leading to Troodos, in places there have been landslides of volumes of soil and stones, making the road network dangerous.
In several areas, the smooth passage of vehicles is likely to be affected due to ongoing works. See here the areas where works are being carried out.
All users of the road network are advised to be particularly careful in their movements, in order to avoid unpleasant situations.
