New wing for post-covid patients at Eden Resort in Tersefanou Opening Thursday The second country in E.E Cyprus to undertake the aspect of rehabilitation of patients infected with COVID-19
As part of the efforts to decongest the state hospitals but also to improve the quality of life of people/patients infected with Covid-19 and in need of rehabilitation, the Ministry of Health announces the opening of the new wing of the Eden Resort Rehabilitation Centre.
The inauguration of the new wing to accommodate patients (post COVID) for rehabilitation mainly after infection with coronavirus, will take place at the Eden Resort in Tersefanou, Larnaca District, on Thursday 23 December 2021 at 10:00 in the morning, in the presence of the Minister of Health Mr. Michalis Hadjipandela and the Director General of the Ministry Ms Christina Giannakis.
Cyprus is the second country in the EU after Germany, where the state health services undertake the rehabilitation aspect of patients infected with COVID-19.
Patients (post COVID) who became ill and are now negative for the virus require rehabilitation rather than further hospitalization in a hospital, as they may experience residual disease in terms of their musculoskeletal and respiratory systems from prolonged hospitalization. The rehabilitation centre will be staffed by qualified medical and nursing personnel of various specialities, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, a clinical psychologist and a clinical nutritionist. The operation of the new rehabilitation wing will significantly contribute to reducing the length of stay of patients in the inpatient wards, which will allow new patient cases to be served.
The agreement with the Eden Resort Rehabilitation Centre was reached following an open public procurement tender by the Ministry of Health.
The facility provides services in accordance with the terms and conditions of the relevant contract and applies technical rules and internationally recognised standards that are in line with modern methods of service provision.
