There were 117,093 cases of coronavirus in England on Tuesday, a new record.
A record was also set for the UK more broadly, with 129,471 cases, although the figures are not final as they include cases from Wales over Christmas weekend and do not include data from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In England, on the other hand, hospitalised coronavirus carriers have increased by 38% in one week, now standing at 9,546.
In London the number of hospitalised is now 3.024, up 59% on a weekly basis.
On the second day of Christmas there were 1,374 admissions to English hospitals, the most since mid-February.
