Phone scams. The public is urged to be particularly careful They try to extort bank data from citizens by posing as officials of International Insurance Services
Recently, the Police have received several complaints from citizens about suspicious telephone calls, in which fraudsters pose as officials of International Insurance Services and/or the Police, telling unsuspecting citizens that their Social Security Number is being misused.
Specifically, citizens receive phone calls from fake numbers that appear to be genuine Cypriot mobile phone numbers and are initially informed falsely in English by a recorded message that their social security number has been misused.
They are then referred to a call centre where they ask unsuspecting citizens to disclose their personal and banking details in order to defraud them.
The public is urged to be particularly careful not to disclose their personal and banking details to any person and where possible, to make an effort to confirm the authenticity of the calling service.
