New evidence for the death of the three children - A matter of days the testimonies, toxicology expected

The police of the Homicide Department of the Attica Security Department, who are investigating the case of the death of the three children in Patras, who died under undetermined circumstances.

Authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests on 9-year-old Georgina, one of the family's three children. At the same time, new evidence is coming to light about the deaths of the other two children.

In particular, the death of Iris, just 6 months old, is under the microscope. According to the forensic report, the infant died of "sinus node agenesis," a degeneration of heart cells that lead to a cessation of electrical stimulation and consequent cardiac arrest.

What happened on that fateful morning

The night before the fateful event, her sister slept at home with the mother. As she told a Star programme yesterday, around 7.30am the baby woke up and the mother got up and put the pacifier in his mouth.

Then before 11am they went to wake him up and the aunt saw that he was not breathing. In fact, the child's aunt stresses in her statement, and indeed emphatically, that "it is wrong for journalists to say that the child was woken up at 11.30. It was before 11 that they went. First they alerted Manos Daskalakis to rush, then they attempted resuscitation (CPR) and also alerted the ambulance.

The signal to the ambulance

In fact, she seemed to emphasize that the child was found unconscious before 11. She also essentially contradicted her sister, who said in a statement that... "the child was found unconscious at 11.30".

The newspaper Peloponnisos has the "recorder" from the ambulance and even the conversation between the 166 Center and the crew of the ambulance that would arrive at the family's house.

As it turns out, the ambulance was alerted at 11.37. And it arrived at the house, from the old port of Patras where the vehicle was parked, in 7 minutes.

The questions are many. But the main one: when did they finally find the baby dead? And if his aunt remembers well, as she stressed yesterday in the TV show, why was the ambulance notified... almost an hour later?

Finally, the child was transferred to Karamandaneio where his death was confirmed.

Why are the toxicology tests delayed

At the same time, as it became known, it will take several more days for the results of the toxicology tests of 9-year-old Georgina, the child who died last of undetermined causes.

This is because, according to reports, a sample is to be sent abroad for even more specialized testing.

The important findings of the toxicological tests are expected - in the first phase - after a week.

We have the tools to identify everything

The forensic scientist, Anna Razou, speaking to MEGA's Live News and Nikos Evangelatos, stressed that now forensic scientists "have all the tools to identify everything".

In response to a question about the possibility of a common genetic cause, due to which all three children were lost, she said that it is rare, however, she said that there is the possibility of such a common cause causing the death of several members of a family.

Ms Razou pointed out that this case "is very interesting for forensic science" and that there are many questions that need to be answered, stressing that everything is "on the table."

"Forensic science can provide answers even in a case as difficult as the one in Patras," she added.

Regarding the toxicological and histological examinations of Georgina, Ms. Razou said that it is common for them to be delayed.

As for the information that they may be sent abroad, the forensic scientist explained that, in this particular case, the investigation is more thorough, because the doctors want to be 100% sure, which is why the results may be delayed longer.

Delay in investigations - What is to blame

In bureaucratic issues and "obstacles" created by judicial officials in the Peloponnese, as well as the change of court orders for the content of the investigation, is attributed by high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Citizen Protection the significant delay in the calls of about 30 witnesses by the EL.AS. to clarify the circumstances of the deaths of the three girls.

According to reports, the original order was to take statements on the deaths of the three girls only from pathologists who have dealt with these incidents. This, ELA officers argue, would significantly limit the scope of the investigation to two to three experts, instead of the 30-40 people who seem to know important parameters of the case.

However, after the intervention of the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Appeal, an attempt is being made to expand the investigation to those who know anything about the mysterious deaths. Following this, the first calls of key witnesses are set for the next 24 hours, and there is a serious possibility that some of them will be called when the authorities have the results of the toxicological and histological tests of Georgina in their hands.
