Tomorrow Monday, February 14, 2022 at 12:30pm.The ceremony of handing over and taking office of the new Deputy Chief of Police, Mr. Dimitrios Dimitrios, will take place in the hall of the Journalists' Center (near the Police Headquarters). Dimitris Demetriou will succeed the former Deputy Chief of Police Mr. Christos Mavris.

Biography of the new Deputy Chief of Police

Mr. Demetriou was born in Nicosia on 19 December 1963. He joined the ranks of the Police in July 1984 and after completing his training at the Police Academy and the PMAD, he served in various Departments, Directorates, Services and Branches of the Police.

Among others, he served as Head of the Press and Public Relations Office, Assistant Police Director at the Nicosia Police Department and Assistant Police Director of the Traffic Headquarters. He also served as Police Director at the Headquarters Traffic Department, as Police Director in Nicosia District, as well as Director of the European Union and International Police Cooperation Directorate (E.U.I.P.C. & I.P.C.), and since August 2017 he holds the rank of Assistant Chief. In particular, from August 2017 until August 2019, he held the position of Assistant Chief of Training, while from August 2019 until today he holds the position of Assistant Chief of Operations.

He holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Piraeus and graduated from the Department of Law of the University of Nicosia, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Law degree. He also holds a Master of Arts in Business Management from the Mediterranean Institute of Management (M.I.M.), a Master of Arts with specialization in Strategic Planning from Middlesex University, London and a Master of Arts in Defence Policy and National Strategy from the National Defence School (NDS), from which he graduated with honours. Further, he holds a Certificate in Traffic Accident Investigation and Reconstruction, which he obtained, on scholarship, from Northwestern University, Chicago, USA. It is worth noting that he has organized a large number of seminars, most of which he has participated in as a lecturer. At the same time, he has published dozens of articles in newspapers and magazines on general issues relating to the police, focusing, however, on road safety issues. He has attended a number of seminars both in Cyprus and abroad on management, road safety, crisis situations, hostage negotiation, etc.

It should be noted that he is President of the Nicosia Local Section and President of the Cyprus Section of the International Police Association (I.P.A.). In 2012 and 2019 he was elected, for 2 consecutive terms, as Internal Auditor of the International Police Association (I.P.A.), while in October 2019, during the World Congress of this Association, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, he was elected Chairman, until October 2023, of the Professional Issues Committee of the I.P.A. In addition, in April 2019, he was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL), which was renamed ROADPOL in 2020.



He also served as President of the Association of Senior Police Officers, member of the International Committees on Professional and Social Issues of the International Police Association, Treasurer of the Executive Committee of the Cyprus Police Sports Union (CPSU).) and member of the Working Group for the preparation of the Cyprus Strategic Plan for Road Safety (2002-2006), which was prepared by ETEK in cooperation with the Technical University of Athens.

Finally, it is mentioned that in 2016 he was a member of the Police Committee established by the Chief of Police for the preparation of a scientific study on the reduction of traffic collisions in Cyprus, while in 2019 he was the Chairman of the Police Committee, which carried out a study focused on the traffic problem that plagues the capital, Nicosia.

He is married to Eleni Demetriou and they have three children.
