The evidence and evidence that could not be secured until now, are still being sought by the investigators of the Larnaca CID, who may not have brought the three arrested men before the court again, but they continue to investigate the murder of Evangelos.
As is known, the detention order of the three arrested as suspects in the ambush death of 53-year-old Andreas Evangellou, committed in December in Larnaca, expired today and the police did not request a renewal of their detention order due to lack of evidence. As a result, the two arrested men, aged 23 and 19, were released, while the third suspect, who is on remand at the Central Prison, will remain on trial for two drug cases, one in Larnaca and one in Nicosia.
As the Cyprus Times was informed in the period since their arrest, it was not possible for the investigators to identify the evidence that would "tie up" the case.
An important piece in the puzzle of the case that is still missing is the murder weapon, which has not yet been identified.
Following the latest developments, the investigators of the case have opened a new round of investigations, both to identify the murder weapon and other evidence, as well as other elements that may be helpful in solving the case and it is not excluded that there may be developments that may lead to arrests.
In the past few days, as the Cyprus Times was informed, searches were carried out in the vicinity of the Dead Zone.
The ambush of death
The murder of 53-year-old Andreas Evangellou was committed around 8.30 in the evening of December 28, 2021, in the parking lot of an apartment building in Larnaca, while he was parking his car. According to the evidence under investigation, two persons riding a scooter-type motorcycle approached him and one of them shot at him, fatally wounding him.
