Vladimir Zhoga was killed yesterday, Saturday, during a battle in the town of Volnovaka in eastern Ukraine
A Russian "warlord" who led the "Sparta Battalion" was killed by Ukrainian fire in Ukraine, a development described by international media as another major setback for Putin and the Russian invasion, which is not turning out as he had hoped.
According to the Sun, Vladimir Zoga was killed yesterday, Saturday, during a battle in the eastern Ukrainian town of Volnovaka.
Denis Pusilin, leader of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine, confirmed Zoga's death via his Telegram account, claiming he was killed during an operation to clear civilians from Volnovaka. Recall that Volnovaka was one of the towns where yesterday Russian troops violated the ceasefire agreement, according to Ukrainian officials, resulting in a halt to the evacuation.
"Zoga joined the separatist forces in 2014, the same year that the Sparta Battalion, a neo-Nazi paramilitary organization backed by Moscow, was created. The group is behind a wave of deadly attacks against Ukrainian troops and has been waging war in the Donbas region since hostilities broke out eight years ago.
Its former leader, Arsen Pavlov, known as Motorola, was charged in Kiev with war crimes and killed by an explosive device in 2016. Zoga's death is another major blow to Putin, who lost two top members of his army this week and is seeing his army's advance and conquest of territory delayed in Ukraine compared to initial predictions."
As the British publication recalls, Russian Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky was reportedly killed in the battle for Hostomel airport, a few kilometers outside Kiev. It was also recently revealed that Ukrainian snipers took out a division commander with high Kremlin connections.
