"If there was a single thing that saved the day, we'd say it was Stranger Things," said platform CEO Reid Hastings
Netflix[/B] announced that the second quarter of 2022 saw a big drop in subscribers.
Speaking in numbers, the streaming giant disclosed that during that period, it lost over 970,000 subscribers, setting a negative record. However, as Netflix CEO Reid Hastings said, Stranger Things 4 and its huge success "saved" the popular platform.
"When we look at this quarter, we see that we performed very well on the content side, thanks to Ozark, Stranger Things. We had a lot of options for everyone. We're improving everything in terms of marketing, service, sales technique and everything that generates revenue in the medium and long term.
If we were to say there was one single thing that saved the day, we would say it was Stranger Things. But we're still talking about a loss1 million instead of 2 million so our excitement is tempered by less and less bad results," Hastings said in recent statements.
In addition to Netflix, the success of Stranger Things season 4 has been good for another industry, that of music.
Significantly, scenes from the show have featured entire artists and bands, including Kate Bush and Metallica. At the same time, it has over 1.27 billion viewing hours and tends to become the second most popular series in its history behind "Squid Game." Stranger Things, however, has one more season 5, which is said to be its last.
