NATO fears Russia may use chemical weapons "That would be a war crime"
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warns that Russia may use chemical weapons after its invasion of Ukraine, noting that this would be a war crime, according to an interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
"In recent days we have heard absurd claims of chemical and biological weapons laboratories," Stoltenberg tells the German newspaper, adding that the Kremlin is inventing false pretexts to justify the unjustifiable.
"Now that these false allegations have been made, we must remain vigilant because it is possible that Russia is planning chemical weapons operations under the cloak of these fabrications. This would be a war crime," he says.
Jens Stoltenberg stresses that although the Ukrainian people are courageously resisting the Russian invasion, the coming days are likely to bring even greater difficulties.
