MP Kostis Efstathiou was re-elected Chairman of the Subcommittee on Culture of the CPSU
MP Kostis Efstathiou was unanimously re-elected, for a second consecutive term, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Culture, Diversity and Cultural Heritage within the framework of the First Part of the Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the process of reconstitution of the Assembly's Committees.
Mr. Efstathiou thanked the members of the Subcommittee for their confidence and presented the priorities and main lines of action of the Subcommittee for 2022.
According to a press release, the Cypriot MEP suggested a review of the broader policy pursued by the Council of Europe and its individual institutional mechanisms for the promotion of cultural diversity, as well as the development of new possible forms of interaction and synergies between stakeholders.
He also referred to the "Cultural Routes" initiative which aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue. Mr Efstathiou also noted that special emphasis will be placed on sites of particular historical memory and the importance of their preservation, as well as on the negative impact of climate change on the protection of cultural heritage, an issue that will be extensively addressed by the Commission in the coming months.
