MP C. Loucaides on a working visit to Amman as Rapporteur of the CSCE Committee

MP George Loucaides is going to Amman tomorrow for a working visit as Rapporteur of the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on the issue of the evaluation of the institution "Partnership for Democracy" in relation to the Jordanian Parliament.

A statement from the Parliament said that as part of his visit, Loukaides will be received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Abdel-Karim Deghmi and Senate President Faisal Al Fayez and will hold separate meetings with the leaders of the parliamentary parties. He will also hold meetings with representatives of the Ministries of Justice, Interior and Education and with representatives of independent authorities, as well as with representatives of civil society organisations, women's organisations and the media. Mr. Loucaides will also have meetings with Ambassadors of Council of Europe member states.

The purpose of Mr. Loucaides' visit is to assess the progress of reforms in Jordan in the Council of Europe's main areas of action, namely democracy, the rule of law and human rights.

Mr. Loucaides will present a report at the next meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy in Strasbourg next October, the statement concludes.
