Ms. Charalambidou noted that in the resolution, the House of Representatives supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and calls for an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian territories.
The Vice President of the C.S. OSCE Chairperson underlined that the resolution stressed the need to respect international law, the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states and characterized as a violation of the principle of territorial integrity of states and the action of the Russian Federation to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk regions as sovereign and independent.
Ms. Charalambidou pointed out that the Parliament's resolution stresses the urgent need to return to dialogue, but also to undertake additional diplomatic initiatives that can lead to the de-escalation of tension and the peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.
Everyone's thoughts, Ms. Charalambidou said, are with the Ukrainian people and especially with the mothers who are saying goodbye to their sons and the children who are saying goodbye to their fathers, leaving their families to defend their homeland.
