"Sad and dangerous" war scenarios put forward by the US, Moscow says Blinken outlined how Washington believes the Russian invasion of Ukraine will happen

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin[/B][/QUOTE]

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin called regrettable and dangerous the military scenarios presented today by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at the UN Security Council.

Blinken outlined how Washington believes the Russian invasion of Ukraine will take place, warning that Moscow is preparing to take military action within the next few days. However, Vershinin noted that some Russian soldiers are already returning to their bases.

The Kremlin earlier accused US President Joe Biden of stoking tensions with his statements about Russia's imminent invasion of Ukraine in the coming days.

The statements being made, including by US President Joe Biden that Moscow plans to attack Ukraine, are escalating the situation, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti.

Unfortunately, tensions continue to be fanned by such statements, Peskov said in response to the US president's statements that an invasion is possible in the coming days.

Russia has amassed huge forces near Ukraine's borders, but continues to maintain that it is the West's actions and statements that are fueling the crisis.

In another development, China accused the US, without naming it, of fomenting tension in Ukraine which Beijing says stems from NATO enlargement and is out of step with the times.

China believes that all parties concerned should allow reason to prevail and move towards a political settlement, refraining from any action that could incite tensions or fuel the crisis, Chinese Ambassador to the UN Zhang Jun told the Security Council meeting.

Nothing happens without reason. NATO enlargement is an issue that we cannot exclude when it comes to the tension in Ukraine. Continuous enlargement, in the aftermath of the Cold War, is contrary to our times, namely the preservation of common security, the Chinese diplomat added.

Regional security cannot be guaranteed through the enlargement of a military bloc. This applies to Europe as well as other regions of the world, Zhang Jun continued.

Referring indirectly to the US, the Chinese diplomat said that there is a country in the world that refuses to give up its Cold War mentality of saying one thing and doing another to achieve military superiority. And this, he added, is particularly evident in the Asia-Pacific region, where small trilateral groups are being formed to provoke confrontation.
