A mosaic of Archbishop Makarios III was placed in the Archdiocese It was Makarios' wish

A mosaic of Archbishop Makarios III was placed today in the Archdiocese of Cyprus. As stated in a statement of the Archdiocese, it was the wish of Makarios, which he had expressed to the well-known artist Giorgos Kotsoni, that his portrait be placed in a mosaic outside his residence in the Archdiocese of Cyprus. Kotsonis referred to the history of this mosaic, which has its beginning at the end of 1976, when the Archbishop asked him for a full-length portrait of him in mosaic to be placed in the Archdiocese and which could not be completed due to the death of Makarios.

The present Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, who was aware of this wish of Archbishop Makarios, urged the well-known artist to complete this work, and to place it today, the day on which the National Archbishop Makarios was celebrating his birthday, it is reported. The mosaic is 3 metres high and 2.20 metres wide and "is an eternal memorial to the illustrious National Archbishop" the statement concludes.
