New cases of COVID-19[/B] around the world exceeded 3 million in the last 24 hours, while new deaths from the disease totaled 8,043, according to a count by the website Worldometers. Most cases and deaths were recorded in the United States.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic exceeded 335.3 million on Wednesday, while international deaths reached 5.6 million.
Some 271 million have recovered from the disease, while the number of active cases currently stands at 58.7 million, with 99.8% having mild symptoms and 0.2% being severe/critical. Of the closed cases, 98% have recovered and 2% have died.
Most cases yesterday, a total of 546,904, were recorded in the US, while the country counted 1,720 new deaths. In second place was France, where new cases yesterday totalled 464,769, while there were 375 new deaths. The third country in terms of number of cases yesterday was India with 282,970 cases and 442 new deaths, followed by Italy with 228,179 new cases and 434 new deaths and Brazil with 132,254 new cases and 317 new deaths.
The countries with the most cases since the beginning of the pandemic are the United States with 68.7 million cases. cases and 877,240 deaths, India with 37.9 million cases and 487,226 deaths, Brazil with 23.2 million cases and 621,578 deaths, the United Kingdom with 15.3 million cases and 152,513 deaths, and France with 14.7 million cases and 127,638 deaths.
